Oct 4, 2016 · Updated 5:23 AM PST, October 4, 2016. ELYRIA, Ohio (AP) — A sailor killed 75 years ago in the attack on Pearl Harbor is set to be buried with full military honors in northeast Ohio. Rudolph Piskuran, of Elyria (eh-LEER'-ee-uh), and 429 other sailors aboard the USS Oklahoma were killed on Dec. 7, 1941 when a torpedo struck the ship. The U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor on Oahu Island, Hawaii, was attacked by the Japanese on December 7, 1941. President Franklin D. Roosevelt speaking to Congress on December 8, 1941 said “Yesterday, December 7, 1941—a date which will live in infamy—the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” Oct 23, 2009 · Isoroku Yamamoto, perhaps Japan’s greatest strategist and the officer who would contrive the surprise air attack on U.S. naval forces at Pearl Harbor, is born on April 4, 1884..
